My Writing Process

The way that I write depends on what it is that I'm writting. If I'm writing a short essay, or something like that I just sit and starty typing. If I'm writing a long research paper, or basically anything over 4 pages, I have to make myself an outline first. Then I go through and figure out what order would be the best for all my topics and subtopics. Once I finish that I go through and try and find ways to tie the information together from topic to topic, so the paper will flow smoothly.
I write best on the weekend when there is nobody around. I can't have people walking around me or talking behind me when I'm writing, because I can't concentrate. However, I ALWAYS listen to music while I write. I think just having music I know play calms me, so time seems to pass faster, rather than complete silence for hours on end.
I also have to write everything at once. I'd rather dedicate a whole weekend to nothing but writing a paper than work on little bits at a time, because once I start concentrating on something, I can't stop until it's done. Also, I never write whole papers on paper, I always just type them directly on the computer. Although sometimes I'll write on note cards and then I'll put them in the order I want them before writing the paper. That way I can read through it and see what would sound the best.
The part that I have the most trouble with when writing papers is the introduction. I never know how to start a paper. So, half the time I just start talking like it's the middle of a conversation. I'd like some help with that. As to revising work, I usually just look at what the other people said about it, and take any advice they have. They may think of something that I wouldn't have.
