Library article

Krystal, Ina and I picked an article by Judith Monk from Musical Opinion, from October 2005, about a woman named Patricia Murray-Bett. We picked this article because we all like music so we wanted something from a musical magazine. We picked this particular article because Ina is Russian and there was a picture from Patricia dancing in a show from “The Tale Tsar Saltan” from The Russian Fairy Tales. Silly reason? Yes indeed, but we all thought it looked interesting.

It’s not really a good article to critique though, because it’s basically just laying out straight facts of what Patricia has done throughout her career. She first joined the firm of London Management which was formally the Grade Organisation. She then joined the Derek Block Organisation, which was the most “profalic” promoter of the decade. Patricia was the one who negotiated the artistes’ fees and produced tour budgets, among other things.

In the 90s Patricia worked with Barry Claymon Concerts and Apollo Leisure, which are major producers of quality shows in many different types of entertainment. They work with artists like Michael Jackson and Prince, and did theater such as Grand Hotel, Aspects of Love, and Barnum. And even did dance shows like Riverdance, The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, and Moscow City Ballet. Patricia had a particular interest in opera and ballet, and since 1998 has worked as an independent producer working with shows from these fields.

Paintings

In Atwood by the stairs there are several couches and some comfortable chairs where I like to do homework. Here I found a piece of art called Sweet Sounds Rose Slowly, by Virginia Bradley. It’s mixed media on berch panel. It has great use of color and has lots of detail. What I really like about it the most is the texture in it. Since it’s on thick birch panel the artist carved into it on some areas, which gives it lots of depth. There is also a great use of color. Most of it is pretty neutral tones like yellow and light green, but then in the middle of it there is a dark crimson red. I love red. In the bottom corner of the painting there is an angel, but you wouldn’t notice it unless you actually take the time to look into the painting. There is what seems like another angel on the top with a wing going down the middle. The middle is the part carved into the panel. I love it! Check it out sometime.

I don’t believe there should be bans on art. The whole point of art is for the artist to express themselves and their feelings. There shouldn’t be restrictions on their feelings. If people think it’s inappropriate that’s their problem. Nobody is forcing them to look at it.

Bush

President Bush's Christmas Eve radio address

As much as I dislike Bush and think he is too stupid to be our president, I can't really say anything bad about this speech. He not only wishes a Merry Christmas to everyone who is nice and cozy in their warm houses with their families, but he also keeps in mind that there are other people out there that aren't so lucky, such as the people affected by Hurricane Katrina. He even tells people that they should take some time to volunteer to help these people out.

Along with those people, he also talks about the people in the Armed Forces, and how it must be hard to not be able to spend the holidays with their families. He also keeps in mind the people who have died in war and empathizes with their families. I think he did a pretty good job. It's not often I can read something he says and not have anything to bash. Maybe he isn't completely incompetent.
